Middle School Teacher Receives Book Love Foundation Grant

USD 457

It was recently announced that A’Lana Bates – Aronson, Horace Good Middle School eighth grade English teacher, received a library grant for $2,000 from the Book Love Foundation.  The grant allowed her to purchase 286 high-interest books for her classroom library.  She is the only grant winner in the state of Kansas.  The foundation awarded 68 classroom library grants totaling $86,000 to teachers in the United States and Canada this year.

The 2020 grant winners are extraordinary teachers who work at local, state, and national levels to inspire their colleagues. The teachers that received the grants are about putting the best books into students’ hands and then giving them time to read them. Every one of these teachers is on the path to creating a future generation of readers.

Since 2013, the Book Love Foundation has given away $590,000 in grants to more than 270 teachers from 41 states and six provinces. Each grant winner is a classroom teacher who works to create a lasting love of reading in all students. The summer book club for teachers includes 1000 plus educators and is the biggest fundraiser. The foundation continues to receive generous support from the BookSource and Heinemann, as well as hundreds of individual donors to support this work.
