Michael J. “Mike” Bird
Michael J. “Mike” Bird, 66 died Thursday, June 18, 2015 in Del Rio, Texas. He was born Febraury 3, 1949 in LaJunta, Colorado the son of N.S. “Bill” & Patricia S. (Fimple) Bird.
Michael moved with his family to the Deerfield, Kansas area in the mid 1950’s. He attended Holcomb schools and later graduated from Garden City High School in 1968. He then attended Garden City Community College. A farmer, Mike also worked as a seed salesman for Pioneer
Hi-Bred International. Mike enjoyed fishing. He was a member of the Hi-Plains Bassmasters and the NRA.
On October 25, 1969 he married Cynthia L. “Cindy” Moreland in Deerfield, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters Tina Bird-Robertson & husband Michael Robertson of Garden City, Becky Bird of Deerfield, Ks., and Sandi & husband Bill Haley of Deerfield, Ks.; his mother Patricia “Pat” Bird of Garden City, Ks.; a sister Connie Penick of Dodge City, Ks.; a brother Philip “Doug” Bird of Wichita, Ks.; and five grandchildren Taryn Bird-Heiman, Allison
Bird-Heiman, Matthew Purse, Wyatt Haley, and Kevin Haley. Mike is preceded in death by his father N.S. “Bill” Bird.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at the Deerfield Cemetery in Deerfield, Kansas. There will be no calling hours. The family requests memorials given to the American Diabetes Association in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
