Marvin E. Barnes, 95, died October 19, 2016. He was born on November 5, 1920; the fourth son of Riley R. Barnes and Emma (Perkins) Barnes in Spearville, Kansas.

He attended Dodge City Senior High and Dodge City Community College and served in the Army Air Force in Guatemala during WWII. He married Katherine Hauber in 1943 and returned to Dodge City and was a farmer before joining the Dodge City Police Department in 1953. He resigned from the police department in 1966 as a sergeant and was the last Mounted Lawman of Dodge City. He was then employed by Western Power and Light until he retired. His hobbies included golf, hunting, fishing, pool and duplicate bridge. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion and Moose Lodge.

He was preceded in death by Katherine Hauber Barnes and daughter Patricia Sue Harms. Survivors include his wife Catherine Craig Barnes, four sons and five daughters: Robert Barnes, Riley Barnes, Bradly Craig, Bryan Craig, Linda Lewis, Sheryl MacLean, Susan Airstrup, and Barbara Whitehurst. He has nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

Graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City on Thursday October 27, 2016 at 2:00 PM with Reverend Jerre Nolte presiding. Swaim Funeral Home assisted the Barnes family with arrangements. Thoughts and memories may be shared in the online guest book at www.swaimfuneralhome.com.
