Maria Friessen, 58, died April 10, 2017 at the Satanta Long Term Care Unit. She was born on February 24, 1959 in Mexico, the daughter of Jacob and Anna (Wiebe) Berg.

Maria was united in marriage to Jacob Friessen on March 9, 1986 in Mexico. They move to Sublette in 2001. Maria attended the Sublette Community Learning Center and proudly earned her high school diploma. She worked at a variety of jobs in Sublette including cleaning homes and businesses as well as working for the school in the cafeteria. Her most important job was being a wife and mother. Maria loved raising her four children. She enjoyed sewing and watching her sons play softball. As her children began to get married and start their families, Maria’s joy turned to her grandchildren. Her smile would light up the room when her grandchildren came to see her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Jacob Friesssen of Sublette; three sons, Peter Friessen and wife Lena, Edwin Friessen and wife Annie, and Ronny Friessen and Annie Rempel all of Sublette; one daughter, Yolanda Banman and husband Jake of Copeland; four grandchildren, Drake, Deon, and Dana Friessen of Sublette and Olivia Banman of Copeland; four brothers, Jacob, Isak, Frank, and Corney all of Mexico; and six sisters, Helena of Seminole, Texas, Agatha, Anna, Elizabeth, Sara, and Tina all of Mexico. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral service will be held at Mennonite Evangelical Church in Copeland on Wednesday April 12, 2017 at 1:00 PM with Ministers Abe Guenther and Pete Loewen presiding. Burial will follow at Copeland Cemetery. Visitation will be at Swaim Funeral Chapel, Sublette on Tuesday April 11, 2017 from 2:00-8:00 PM.
