Maize rolls past Dodge City in TOC opener
Dodge City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) The Dodge City High School basketball team dropped their Tournament of Champions opener Thursday night to Maize 98-71. The Eagles jumped out to a 19-0 lead and never relinquished it. The Red Demons were able to cut the lead to 50-40 at halftime, but in the second half Maize was too much.
Caleb Grill exploded for the Eagles scoring 38 points on 14-23 shooting. The 38 points tied him for fifth most in a game in TOC history. Brandle Studevan also scored 23 points for the Eagles. Maize hammered the Red Demons on the boards, outrebounding them 45-26, including 20 offensive rebounds. The Eagles also forced Dodge City to turn the ball over 30 times leading to 36 points.
Hunter Heath led Dodge City in scoring with 17 points and 4 rebounds. Adrian Medoza had 15 points on 5-6 shooting from three-point range.
Dodge City will play Friday night at 6 p.m. against Wichita East in the consolation bracket, pregame coverage will begin at 5:45 p.m. on Z 98. Maize will play Bishop Miege in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m.
