Loys A. Grove, 91, died Monday, January 30, 2017 at the Kansas Soldiers Home, Halsey Hall, Ft. Dodge. 

He was born September 4, 1925 at Long Island, Kansas, the son of Millard and Maude (Kuhl) Groves. He grew up in Norton County the last of nine children. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Navy serving during WWII in the Panama Canal and the South Pacific. He finished his service in Okinawa and in 1947 he re-enlisted in the United States Air Force and was in the Marshall Islands and witnessed the atomic bomb test in 1948. Out of the Air Force in 1950 he worked over the years as an oil-field roughneck, phone company lineman, grain elevator builder an equipment operator for Norton County and farmer as well as owning a water well service company. 

He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and in 2009 participated in the Honor Flight to Washington, DC. 

He moved to Ft. Dodge from Seneca, Kansas in August of 2014. 

In 1950, he married Ivalee Perrill at Norton. She preceded him in death on December 24, 2014. 

Survivors include: his children, Freda Grove, Bancroft, Iowa, Alvin Grove and wife Anette, Blue Springs, Missouri, Ida Rae, Richland, Missouri, Debbie Field, Reserve, Kansas and Darrell Grove, Seneca; 13 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren. 

He was also preceded in death by his parents, a son, Lynn Grove and brothers and sisters, Berl Grove, Ester Woodburn, Woodrow Grove, Lizzie Grove, Melba Hazlet, Ferne Hazlet, Joy Grove and an infant sister. 

Memorial services will be at 11:00 am Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas with Chaplain Sam Sanford officiating and full military honors. There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place.
