Louise (Heeke) Downey
Louise (Heeke) Downey, 84, died Friday, March 27, 2015 at Trinity Manor, Dodge City.
She was born October 30, 1930 at Windthorst, Kansas, the daughter of Harry and Emmaline (Ackerman) Heeke. A lifetime area resident, she operated a dairy farm north of Wright with her husband and after retiring from farming, she was a cook at Parkview Apartments in Spearville.
She was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Spearville and enjoyed gardening, playing cards, putting puzzles together and making rosaries.
On August 21, 1951, she married Bernard Downey at Windthorst. He preceded her in death on December 18, 1995.
Survivors include: her son, Delbert and wife Barbara, Wright; 3 daughters, Regina Lix and husband Greg, Wright, Rita Stein and husband Kelly, Spearville and Doris Kohn and husband Galen, Dodge City; a brother, Alfred Heeke, Hays; 2 sisters, Evelyn Durler and Julie Durler both of Dodge City; 14 grandchildren, Charlene Lix and companion, Scott Schumaker, Rebecca Lix, Karen Reedy and husband Joe, Jason Stein and wife Rebecca, Jeremy Stein and wife Ashley, Renee Miller and husband Roch, Adam Stein and wife Raven, Kimberly Kohn, Jennifer Kohn, Kyle Kohn and wife Reba, Christopher Downey and wife Kelly, Melinda Downey, Robert Downey and Brian Downey; and 15 great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, 3 sons, Harold, Marvin and Bernard Downey and a daughter, Linda Sue Downey.
Vigil service will be 7:00 pm Sunday, March 29, 2015 at St. Andrew Church, Wright. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Monday, March 30, 2015 at St. Andrew Church with Fr. Robert Schremmer presiding. Visitation will be from Noon to 5:00 pm Sunday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetery, Wright.
