Fifth straight WAC title for girls golf
Great Bend, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-When Garden City Girl’s Golf Coach Melinda Base looks back on her team’s conference dominance, it will have to put a big smile on her face.
On a blustery Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Buffs completed a pretty major feat: A fifth straight Western Athletic Conference Championship by routing the field in their final regular-season tournament of 2013.
“I’m really proud of these girls,” Base said. “It’s a really big accomplishment.”
As for the wind:
“To play the wind you just can’t quite judge how far it’s going to roll,” Base said. “Wherever the wind pushes it it’s going to out. The girls fought really hard today.”
Behind the Buffs: Great Bend finished second; Hays was third and Dodge City was fourth.
“It wasn’t really a good day for us.” Red Demons coach Jim Maple said. “We were down a couple of girls-in fact we only had five today.”
