Local coach named to national-team staff (Audio)

Dodge City, Kan (westernkansasnews.com)-For the second straight year, Dodge City Community College softball coach Howie Smith was named as an assistant on the National Junior College U.S.A team. 

The squad, which consists of 16 student athletes, will be competing in the 20th annual Canadian Open Fast Pitch tournament July 15-21 in Surrey, British Columbia. 

Smith just wrapped up his 24th season as Dodge City Head Coach. He’s been named the KJCCC coach of the year three times: 1997, 2003 and 2012 while leading the Conqs to the World Series in 2000.
