Lloyd Ancel DeRemus, 66 died Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. He was born August 10, 1948 in Garden City the son of Ancel & Margaret (Black) DeRemus.  

Lloyd has been a lifetime resident of Garden City and Holcomb. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1966. Lloyd then earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Panhandle State University. He then earned a Master’s degree in Administration from Fort Hays State University. Lloyd taught middle school in Holcomb for 30 years. While teaching, he also served as a long time football coach and basketball coach. In 1979 Lloyd, with the help of his good friend Merle Henry, began his part time business Mr. Pool. After retiring from teaching in 2001, Mr. Pool became a full time career. His son, Kelly, and son-in-law, Richard Chandler, joined him as partners making Mr. Pool a thriving family business. He enjoyed watching KU basketball, traveling, his work, and he loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. Lloyd’s biggest enjoyment was his annual Christmas light display for all the children of the Garden City area.

On August 16, 1969 he married Linda Schupman in Garden City. She survives. Other survivors include a daughter Holly & husband Richard Chandler of Garden City; a son Kelly & wife Shelby DeRemus of Garden City; 5 grandchildren Katie Chandler, Emily Chandler, Ancel DeRemus, Shi DeRemus, & Kelbie DeRemus; a brother David DeRemus of St. Petersburg, Florida; and 4 sisters Greta Gibbs of Salina, Ks., Teresa Dodds of Washington, Ks., Linda Lecklider of Salina, Ks., and Sharon Haverkamp of Ellsworth, Ks.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Garden City with Pastor Jerry Farr and Rev. Brian Faust officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date. There will be no calling hours. The family requests memorials given to the Lloyd DeRemus Memorial Scholarship Fund at Garden City Community College in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
