Lion habitat at Lee Richardson Zoo to be dedicated to Becker’s memory
Garden City, KS(westernkansasnews.com) On Tuesday afternoon the Garden City commissioners approved a request to dedicate the lion habitat at Lee Richardson Zoo in memory of Robert Becker.
Becker, 67, was killed in a motorcycle accident on October 7 when he was allegedly rear-ended and run over in a jeep driven by Bashir Omar, 31.
Omar was arrested and will stand trial for second-degree murder. He is currently in the Finney County jail with bail set at $125,000.
Becker worked for several years at Lee Richardson Zoo and was still a big supporter and volunteer for the zoo after he retired in 2002. Becker was responsible for the lion habitat when he worked at the zoo, which was the reason for naming that habitat in his honor.
