Lila Louise McGaughey

Lila Louise McGaughey, age 89, of Ulysses, Kansas died Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at her home in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born March 4, 1926 in Glasco, Kansas, the daughter of Edward and Margaret (Romeiser) Berndt.

Lila grew up in Glasco, Kansas and graduated from Glasco High School. She married Jay McGaughey on August 9, 1958 in Glasco. They moved to Ulysses, Kansas in 1959 from Colby, Kansas. Lila was the secretary for 34 years at Shelton Memorial Christian Church. She also was their organist for 50 years. Lila served as the secretary for United Way for many years. She was a past member of the book club, music club, and had played for the Kitchen Kuties.  

She is survived by her husband, Jay of their home; sons, Jeffrey McGaughey of Silver City, New Mexico, Steven McGaughey and wife Deby of Lindsborg, Kansas, Mark McGaughey and wife Kim of Ulysses, Kansas; daughter, Gail Hoch and husband Keith of Wichita, Kansas; ten grandchildren, Taryn McGaughey, Danyel Deitrich, Tyrel McGaughey, Shalesa Aldrich, Erin Harrell, Lauren Hoch, Braden Hoch, Madeline McGaughey, Kaelin Hoch, Matthew McGaughey; four great-grandchildren, Gaige McGaughey, Paige Aldrich, Melody Aldrich, and Leanna Deitrich. 

Lila is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Bruce Berndt, Harlan Berndt, Alan Berndt; sister, Evelyn Crites; and one great-granddaughter, Lila Belle Deitrich.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Shelton Memorial Christian Church in Ulysses, Kansas with Reverend Kelly Gindlesberger officiating. Interment will follow at the Ulysses Cemetery in Ulysses, Kansas. Friends may call from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
