Liberal teen dies in Seward County accident

Seward County, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–A two-vehicle accident took place Thursday afternoon, just before 4 p.m. at the U.S. Highway 54 and Country Road junction in Seward County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol report, a 1993 Chevrolet driven by 15-year-old Emilee Megan Grace Hamilton of Liberal was stopped at the stop sign on County Road 17 at the junction, when she failed to yield and turned westbound on U.S. Highway 54, pulling out in front of a 2025 Kenworth driven by 60-year-old James Cambell Bailey of Wichita.

Both vehicles came to rest in the north ditch, partially in the lanes. The Kenworth’s power unit and trailer it was pulling came to rest on its side.

Hamilton was prounounced dead at the scene, and Bailey was uninjured. The KHP report states that both drivers involved were wearing seatbelts.
