Liberal teen dies in early Sunday morning accident

Seward County, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–A single vehicle fatality accident occurred just before 2 a.m. Sunday morning in Seward County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol report, a 2009 Dodge Charger driven by 16-year-old Augustus J. Riley of Liberal was eastbound on Seward County Road 9, when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of US Highway 83 and Road 9 becoming airborne. The vehicle landed to the east of US Highway 83 on Road 9 where the driver lost control, entering a side skid before entering the south ditch. The vehicle rolled an unknown number of times prior to coming to a stop when it struck a power pole, coming to rest facing east.

Riley was pronounced deceased at the scene, and was wearing a seatbelt, according to the KHP report.
