Liberal Man Drives Overnight for $25,000 Prize

TOPEKA, KAN. – Bill Wesley made the long trip from Liberal to Topeka last night to claim his $25,000 prize playing the $5 20X The Cash instant scratch ticket. He was so anxious to claim his prize; he was waiting in the parking lot for the office to open up!

“I scratched off the winning ticket last night around 8:00 p.m., and by 9:00 I decided that I would go ahead and head up here,” said Wesley. “We got to Topeka around 4:00 a.m., and we killed some time before getting to the Kansas Lottery headquarters at about 7:00 and just waited for you to open.”

Sunday night was a whirlwind for the retired Army veteran. He stopped at a convenience store to cash in some winning tickets, when the 20X The Cash ticket caught his eye. “Something inside just told me to get that 20X ticket. So I cashed in my winners, and just spent $5 on one ticket, and it was a big winner,” Wesley said.

When Wesley scratched the ticket off, he couldn’t believe his luck. “I checked it there in the store, and then on the way home, I stopped and checked it again just to be sure,” he said. “That’s when I decided that I just couldn’t wait until the morning to leave, so we loaded up and left right then.”

Wesley says he already knows exactly where the money is going. “I’ve had my eye on a 2007 C6 Chevy Corvette in Liberal for eight months now, and this will let me get it outright. I knew from the moment I won, this was new car money!” he said with a smile.

The winning ticket was sold at the Toot’n Totum at 2104 W. Pancake Boulevard in Liberal. There are still five top prizes left in the 20X The Cash game.
