Liberal edges GCHS soccer in Wichita North Cup
Liberal, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-After winning both of their pool matches during the week, the Garden City High School soccer team earned a spot in the third place game on Saturday. Their reward was a 60-minute trip to Liberal instead of a three-hour drive to Wichita.
But the result was the same as it was earlier in the season, a 3-2 loss to the Redskins.
Eliel Gonzalez scored just three minutes into the contest to give Liberal a 1-0 edge, before Garden City tied it early in the second half Miguel Hernandez tied it 1-1. Jose Herrera then gave the Buffaloes a 2-1 lead with a goal in the 52nd minute.
That’s the last time Garden City scored.
Gonzalez burned the Buffaloes with two goals in the final five minutes (75th and 78th).
