Leslie Smith, 63, died Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at his home in Dodge City. 

He was born March 18, 1951 at Dodge City the son of Vernon LeRoy and Mary Louise (Johnston) Smith. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1968 to 1972 attaining the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon. A lifetime area resident, he farmed and was a truck driver for many years working for Dodge City Sand, Speed King, Excel and Chaffins. 

He was a member of Howard Gotschall VFW Post 1714 in Dodge City. He was raised Christian and his faith was very important to him. 

On May 31, 1974 he married Joyce Bredfeldt at Dodge City. They later divorced. 

Survivors include: his daughter, Jayme Whitlow and husband Neal, Augusta, Kansas; 2 brothers, Rawlin Smith and wife Sara, Dodge City and Robin Smith and wife Teresa, Corpus Christi, Texas; his sister, Juaniece Hamilton and husband Stan, Apache Junction, Arizona; and 3 grandchildren, Addy, Ellison and Grayson Whitlow. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. 

Funeral service will be 10:00 am Monday, March 9, 2015 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with Pastor Neal Whitlow officiating. There will be no public viewing, the casket will remain closed. Burial will be in the Kansas Veterans Cemetery at Ft. Dodge, Kansas with military honors by Howard Gotschall VFW Post 1714 and Military Honors for the State of Kansas.
