Leo W. Hanneman

Leo W. Hanneman, 85 died Thursday, March 17, 2016 at his home in Garden City. He was born July 21, 1930 in Lakin, Kansas the son of John & Mollie (Grauberger) Hanneman.
Leo grew up as a child in rural Lakin, Kansas. As a teenager he moved with his family to Garden City and has lived in Garden City since. Upon graduating from Garden City High School, Leo served in the U.S. Air Force from July 1950 to January 1954. After the service, Leo began working for Johns Motor servicing Studebaker cars. He later worked for Machine Supply Co. for 24 years as assistant manager/purchasing agent. Leo was service & body shop manager at Western Motors for 16 years and then part-time city salesman for NAPA Auto Parts. Leo was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Garden City, the Noon Lions Club for over 40 years, Disabled American Veterans and has served on the Board of Directors at Golden Plains Credit Union for over 40 years. Leo was well known as the guy who restored English MGB sports cars bringing back to life close to 50 cars. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
On July 11, 1955, he married Mary P. Etrick in Garden City. She died on August 25, 2009. Leo is also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Albert Hanneman.
Survivors include 3 daughters, Patti and husband Don Pile of Garden City; Lee Ann Broussard of Jacksonville, Florida; Jenifer Hanneman of Reading, Kansas; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Leo is also survived by a brother Harvey and wife Judy Hanneman of Wichita, Kansas.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 24 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Garden City. A private family interment will take place at a later date. There will be no calling hours. The family suggests memorials given to the Leo Hanneman Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
