Lavern K. Ashley, 75, died December 30, 2013, at the Hodgeman County Long Term Care Center. Jetmore.  

He was born August 9, 1938, in Jetmore, the son of Gerald and I. Mae Scothorn Ashley, he was a rural mail carrier and was retired from the Jetmore COOP and Collingwood /ADM.  

He was of the Christian faith, Hodgeman County E.M.S., and loved racing.  

On May 13, 1961, he married Leona Kay Baldwin in Dodge City.  She passed away June 29, 1981.  

Survivors include: a daughter, Gretchen (Laverna Kay) (Jerry) Torrez, Dodge City; three brothers, Glenn Dale, Dodge City, Gailord Milton, Webster, New York, Jerald Clinton, Lamar, Colorado; four grandchildren, Tyler Ashley, Bismarck, North Dakota, Logan Murphy, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Hope and Liam Torrez, Dodge City, and Aby of the home.  

He was preceded in death by a brother, Arlyn Dwane Ashley.  

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church, Jetmore, with Pastor Dennis Fulton presiding. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery, Jetmore.
