Laurence “Buddy” White, Sr.
Laurence “Buddy” White, Sr., was born on August 23, 1948 in Dodge City, Kansas, the son of the late Norval and Kathryn (Kliesen) White.
Laurence passed away at the Sanford Jackson Medical Center on May 26, 2014 at the age of 65 years after a long illness. Cremation took place.
He was a graduate of Windthorst High School and later Kansas Newman University in Wichita, Kansas. On September 18, 1971, he was united in marriage to Donna Bridges in Dodge City, Kansas and had two children. They later divorced but remained friends until her death in 2009. He had worked for the Wardrobe Cleaners, the family owned business for over 20 years. He also served as a deputy sheriff for the Gray County Sheriff’s Office. In January 2011, he moved to Lakefield, Minnesota to be closer to family. Laurence was a member of the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Dodge City, Kansas, where he had served as an usher, lector, and Mass server. He enjoyed listening to classical music and seeing classical art. He was a member of Boothill AA, NRA, and the Fraternal Order of Police. He enjoyed model cars and hot rods and tanks. In his younger years, he enjoyed racing Datsun’s.
Laurence is survived by his daughter, Katie (husband Aaron) White Majerus of Lakefield, MN, a son, Police Officer, Joe White of the Bronx, New York; 5 grandchildren, Jared Tirevold, Jordian Tirevold, Justin Tirevold, Elizabeth Majerus and Kevin Majerus; 1 great-grandson, Jaxsen Tirevold, his brother, Robert E.L. Walker of Los Angeles, California and Daniel Tirevold of MN (former son in law and helped in his care taking)
Laurence was preceded in death by his parents and his former wife, Donna White.
Vigil service will be 7:00 pm Wednesday, August 5, 2015 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Thursday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Dodge City, with Fr. Wesley Schawe presiding. Friends may sign the register from 9:00 am to 7:00pm Wednesday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel with the family present from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City. The family suggests memorials to the Laurence White Memorial Fund in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
