Larry “Sarge” Zimmerman

Larry “Sarge” Zimmerman, 73, stood his last formation on Wednesday, December 30, 2015.

He was born August 25, 1942 at Jetmore, the son of Donald and Myrtle (Coffman) Zimmerman. He was raised and graduated high school at Alexander, Kansas and attended Dodge City Community College. He retired as a First Sergeant, AGR for the Kansas Army National Guard, having 30 years of total service. He was in charge of the National Guard Armory in Kingman until moving to Dodge City in 1979. He was a gun enthusiast and hot rod fanatic.

On July 25, 1964 he married Virginia “Ginny” Urban in Great Bend. He was blessed to have married into the Urban Family, a caring and loving family. Ginny preceded him in death on June 12, 2001.

Survivors include: 3 daughters, Julia A. Hanson and husband Kevin, Dodge City, Holly D. Rutschman, of the home and Robin R. Shay and husband Grant, Pueblo West, Colorado; 8 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Zimmerman.

Memorial services will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City, with Rev. Dick Robbins officiating. There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Tuesday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Dodge City, with full military rites by Howard Gotschall VFW Post 1714 and Military Honors for the State of Kansas. Together again, in the same urn, Virginia and he will wait for their family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Cancer Center of Kansas in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
