Larry Max Arbuckle, 79, died Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the Kansas Soldiers Home, Halsey Hall, Ft. Dodge, Kansas. 

He was born February 17, 1937 at Wichita, the son of Lorenzo Martin and Vula Ezarene (King) Arbuckle. He was a graduate of Claflin High School and the US Trade School for Auto Mechanics in Kansas City. 

He served in the United States Army attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served in Lebanon in 1958 and Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. After being honorably discharged in 1977 he worked as a mechanic for the City of Junction City, retiring August of 2004. He moved to Ft. Dodge from Junction City on October 15, 2015. 

He enjoyed car races and country music. He loved his family as well as cars and called himself a “motor head”. 

On April 14, 1960 he married Hedwig “Hedy” Augustine at Dotzhiem, Germany. She preceded him in death on August 9, 2001. 

Survivors include: a daughter, Sylvia Neudeck and husband Victor, Pocking, Germany; 3 sisters, Sue Scott and husband Roy, Covington, Oklahoma, Sandra Higgins, Dodge City and Vicki Ritter and husband Darwin, Salina; 2 grandchildren, Thomas Neudeck and wife Bettina and Daniela Bachl and husband Hans all of Pocking, Germany; 2 great grandchildren, Lukas Neudeck and Hannes Bachl; his dog, “Tiny”; and several nephews and nieces. 

He was also preceded in death by his parents. 

Memorial service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the Ft. Dodge Chapel, with Rev. Dick Robbins officiating and military honors by Howard Gotschall VFW Post 1714 and Military Honors for the State of Kansas. There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Friday at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in the Hoisington Cemetery, Hoisington. 

The family suggests memorials to the Ford County Humane Society or Hospice of the Prairie both in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
