Lady Busters Blow-out Northwest Tech to Advance to Region VI Quarterfinals
Garden City, KS (www.westernkansasnews.com) – In total dominating fashion the Garden City Community College Lady Busters dismantled the Lady Marvericks of Northwest Tech of Goodland last Saturday night 75-39 at Perryman Athletic Complex to advance to the Region VI quarterfinals. The Lady Busters got things going early and jumped on top of Marvericks and never looked back and controlled the score board in the first half with a 21 point lead at intermission 34-13. Three time KJCCC Player of the week and NJCAA player of the week, sophomore Tamara Jones led the scoring barrage for Garden City with 21 points and 9 rebounds, sophomore Deni Jacobs dropped in 18 and sophomore Tahlia Pope added 15 and every player on the roster scored in the game. There were times in the 2nd half the Lady Busters lacked a little focus, but the game was never close throughout as the Lady Busters coasted to their 28th win on the season to only 3 losses as the No 2 seed in the Region VI Tournament. The victory propels Garden City into the quarterfinals to face the No 6 seed Coffeyville at 14-17 to be played at Perryman Athletic Complex Tuesday night with a 7:00 tip-off. Garden City – Tuesday night March 5th at 7pm the Dennis Perryman Athletic Complex will be the site for second round Region VI Women’s Basketball, as the (14-17) Coffeyville Red Ravens take on the #12 (28-3) Garden City Community College Broncbusters. Tuesday night’s winner will advance to Park City’s Hartman Arena for Friday’s semi-final game. Buster/Cat fans have an opportunity from 6:00 to 6:50pm to meet and greet former Kansas State Wildcat Football Stars Matt Miller, Jeff Kelly and Joe Gordon. Matt Miller was named head football coach in January and Jeff Kelly will be Defensive Coordinator. Gordon will be defensive pass game coordinator. The trio will be available at halftime in the Hall Of Fame Room to visit further. Come cheer on the Busters and get a chance to meet the Kansas State University Football legends. Tipoff is at 7:00pm.
