Lady Buffs sweep Liberal in series moving to 6-2 on the season

Garden City, Kan (WesternKansasNews.com) – The final third game of the series with Liberal, the Buffaloes had winning as their number one goal. Junior Brie Manwarren not only had an exceptional day on the mound, but bagged 4 hits for the lady Buffs as well.

Liberal would start off with a run after both squads went scoreless in the first two innings. Top of the third, Liberal would strike first after Torrez hit a single RBI to put the Lady Redskins up early with a 1-0 lead. Despite Liberal’s only run in the entire 3 game series, the lady buffs would answer back in the bottom of the third. Angel Serrano would hit a two run RBI into center field to put the lady buffs up 2-1. The Bufffalos didn’t stop there, Kamy Foster grounded out to second base and would drive in another run to make it 3-1 at the end of the third inning.

The lady buffs would waste no time in the top of the 4th, going 3 up and 3 down on the Redskins. Emma Ortiz would hit a ground ball to the 3rd baseman who overthrew the ball, allowing Ortiz to round the bags for another lady buff run. Jesy Foster would come in for the final run of the inning making it 5-1 Garden City.

Bottom of the fifth, Kami Foster would hit a single pop fly to right field to bring Piper Harris in for the 6th run of the day. After another quick defensive stent by Garden City, the lady buffs would put an exclamation point on the game in the bottom of the 6th. Big hitting in the bottom of the 6th would allow the lady buffs to tally 5 more runs. Piper Harris would single, Manwarren would hit a home run and Kamy Foster would come in for the game winning run after a wild pitch.

Manwarren got the win for Garden City. The Junior allowed three hits and one run over six innings, striking out seven and walking zero.

Jenna Ormiston took the loss for Liberal. The hurler lasted five innings, allowing 12 hits and 11 runs while striking out seven.

Garden City totaled 12 hits. Manwarren and Angel Serrano each racked up multiple hits for the Lady Buffaloes. Manwarren went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Garden City in hits.
