Lady Buffaloes pick up 8th WAC title after sweep in Dodge City

On track for the best season yet, the Garden City Buffaloes knew coming into to the final WAC series with Dodge, the target would be larger than ever.

Brie Manwarren would not be denied at the plate, picking up four hits and leading Garden City to a 11-5 win over Dodge City. Manwarren singled in the first, homered in the fifth, singled in the sixth, and doubled in the seventh.

Garden City fired up the offense in the first inning, when Angel Serrano singled on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs.

Garden City notched four runs in the seventh inning. The big inning was thanks to singles by Gabby Ortiz and Jesy Foster and a double by Manwarren.

Brie Manwarren was the winning pitcher for the Buffaloes. The righty lasted seven innings, allowing three hits and five runs while striking out 12.

M Musslin took the loss for Dodge City. The pitcher surrendered 11 runs on 16 hits over seven innings, striking out four and walking one.

Garden City racked up 16 hits on the day. Foster, Manwarren, and Serrano all collected multiple hits for the Buffaloes. Manwarren and Foster all had four hits to lead Garden City.

B Lomas led Dodge City with two hits in three at bats.

Game 2

Garden City got things started in the first inning. Angel Serrano drove in four when she hit a Grand Slam into center left field.

Despite falling down by four runs in the first inning, Dodge City tried to fight back as the Lady Demons scored seven runs in the failed comeback. A fielder’s choice by Tyra Coon in the third, a home run by M Landa in the third, a single by B Lomas in the sixth, and a error in the sixth.

Brie Manwarren started the game for Garden City. The junior lasted four innings, allowing five hits and four runs while striking out five and walking zero. A Ortiz started the game for Dodge City. The hurler went six innings, allowing seven runs on five hits and striking out one.

The biggest twist of the game though wasn’t even the late game hitting spree, but the truthful hope of a successful pitching team. Rest assured, this team has got just that. Kylie Whitehurst, some might know the name. After all, the family knows a few things about strikes, but only in the bowling lane. Going into the fifth inning, Trina Moquiett would pull one of the biggest rabbits out of the hat sending in the freshman for just the second time all year. Only 7 batters faced and now in a tough situation versus Dodge, all eyes were on the up and coming star.

Kyleigh Whitehurst would get her first victory for Garden City. The righthander allowed three hits and three runs over three innings, striking out two.

C Lenz took the loss for Dodge City. The pitcher surrendered one run on two hits over one inning, striking out one and walking zero.

Garden City stole the lead late and defeated Dodge City 8-7 on Tuesday. The game was tied at seven with Garden City batting in the top of the seventh when Ryann Warren singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

Garden City racked up seven hits in the game. Warren and Manwarren each had multiple hits for the team. Manwarren and Warren each collected two hits to lead Garden City.

Dodge City racked up eight hits. A Froetschner and Lomas all managed multiple hits for the Lady Demons.

Garden City moves to 13-2 overall in the season and now 11-0 in the wac. The lady Buffalos will host a single Western Athletic Conference game versus Dodge City at John Ford Field Thursday to close out the conference play.
