GCHS Girls Soccer Team Loses 11-1 to Wichita Northwest

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) There is a silver lining for the Garden City High School’s girls soccer team.  It can only get better from here.  After last year’s 11-7 season and with a younger group this spring the Lady Buffs resilency has already been put to an early test after just one game.

Wichita Northwest scored two minutes into the game.  Score three times in the first seventeen minutes and cruised to an 11-1 win over Garden City in the season opener for both teams.

Lady Buffs goaltender Ashlee Richman saw shot after shot from an Wichita Northwest offense that kept on Garden City’s side of the field most of the game.   Senior Forward Paige Achey had six goals in the win, four of them in the first half.

Down 7-0 at half, the Grizzlies scored the first goal of the second half and then Garden City Junior Forward Amber Miller was able to put her team on the board in the 44th minute jetting ahead on a breakaway and sneaking one past goalie Kassidy Evans.

Garden City will play at the Goddard/Esienhower tournament next Monday when they meet Ark City.
