Lady Beaver Volleyball goes 1-2 in Leoti
Leoti, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Playing in first of three days of volleyball this week, the Scott City Lady Beaver Volleyball team traveled to Leoti Tuesday for a quadrangular with the Goodland, Lakin and Wichita County-Leoti. The Lady Beavers went 1-2 on the day with their lone win coming against Wichita County, and tough losses to Goodland and Lakin. Goodland went undefeated on the day at 3-0, Lakin finished 2-1 and Wichita County 0-3.
In Scott City’s first game, the Lady Beavers came out and played what could have been their best set of the season to this point. They went on to take the first set 25-19. In the second set, Scott City and the Cowgirls of Goodland went back and forth early, but the Cowgirls would pull away, and the Lady Beavers could not get any closer than four points, and fell 25-19. Goodland led a majority of the third set, leading 20-9, before the Beavers pulled to within four, but dropped the final set 25-17.
Up next was the host school Wichita County Lady Indians. Scott City was pushed for two sets, and early in the third, before pulling away. The Lady Indians were unable to be put away in the first set, as the Lady Beavers won 25-22. Wichita County would build build a five-point lead early, and Scott City tried to play catch up, but were unable to. Set two went to the Lady Indians 25-9. After leading 6-5 in the final set, the Lady Beavers regained the momentum and put the hammer down, closing the match on a 19-6 run to claim a 25-11 victory.
Lakin would be Scott City’s final opponent of the evening. It seemed early on that the Lady Beavers were poised to keep their momentum from their last match. Scott City led in the early part of the first set. The Lady Broncs would put together a big run in the middle of the set, and prevailed 25-17. Lakin and the Lady Beavers would go back and forth in the second set. The Lady Broncs responded and built a five point lead. Scott City came back and tied it at 22 and 23, and even had set point at 24, but Lakin scored the final three points of the match to win 26-24.
In other matches in Leoti Tuesday, Lakin defeated Wichita County 25-11, 25-11, Goodland defeated Wichita County 25-7, 25-17, and they also defeated Lakin 25-22, 25-22.
After Tuesday, Scott City is 2-4 on the season, and will travel to Colby Thursday for a quadrangular with Colby, Hoxie and Oakley.
