Lady Beaver softball sweeps Stanton County

Johnson, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–The Scott City Lady Beaver softball team returned to the field for the first time in a week on Friday, as they made the trip to Stanton County to face the Trojans. They would come up with a pair of big wins, as they won the first game 21-2, and finished the day off with a 27-10 victory.

In game one, Stanton County jumped out early 2-0 after an inning, only to see the Lady Beavers hang 12 runs in the second inning to lead 12-2. Scott City added four runs in the third and got five in the fourth to win 21-2 in four innings. Cheyenne Cramer gave up two runs, one earned, on three hits with seven strikeouts in four innings of work. Rhiley Stoppel had three hits and drove in seven runs. Two of her hits were home runs, including a grand slam. PJ Suppes drove in five runs and had three hits, as the Lady Beavers finished with 19 hits in the first game.

For the finale, Scott City jumped out big, leading 13-1 going into the bottom of the second inning. The Lady Trojans would rally with eight runs in the second and added another run in the third to pull to within 13-10. That was the closest they got, as the Lady Beavers exploded for 14 runs in the fourth to come away with another four-inning win 27-10. Cheyenne Cramer got the win in relief, giving up two runs on four hits with four strikeouts in 2 2/3 innings. Hannah Tucker started the first inning and a third, surrendering eight runs on just one hit. Tucker would have three hits and drive in six runs, including hitting a home run. Cheyenne Cramer and PJ Suppes each had a home run in game two, as Scott City exploded for 25 hits in the game. Amber Latta had four hits and drove in three runs, Madison Miller also had four hits with two RBI, and Makayla Miller drove in four runs on three hits.

Scott City improved to 16-2 on the year, and will wrap up their regular season Tuesday at home against Hugoton. Stanton County heads to Spearville on Tuesday to wrap up their regular season.
