Lady Beaver softball sweeps Holcomb

Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Scott City played host to Holcomb on Tuesday in a pair of teams that have a lot of new faces in key positions from the last time the teams had played. Both teams have had rececnt success, going to state last year in their respective classifications. On a warm afternoon, the Lady Beavers would take care of business in both games, taking a pair of 15-0 wins over Holcomb.

Scott City 15, Holcomb 0, Game 1 (3 Inn.)
The Lady Beavers would score three in the first, and two in the second inning to lead 5-0. Holcomb would have their first baserunner on a walk in the second inning. They would collect their first hit of the game in the top of the third. Scott City would force Holcomb to strand three baserunners in three innings. The Lady Beavers would put the game away for good in the bottom of the third with 10 runs, to end the game 15-0 with one out in the bottom of the inning.

Baylee Wolkensdorfer tossed just 41 pitches in three innings, giving up one hit and struck out four batters. She helped her cause in the circle by having a pair of hits and three RBI. Piper Fox also had two hits with three RBI and Clara Wolkensdorfer drove in two runs. Ayda Fletcher took the loss, giving up 15 runs, nine earned, on nine hits. Madison Bahena had the lone hit for the Lady Longhorns

The finale of the day would play out similar to the first game. This time around, the Lady Beavers would score five runs in each of their at bats. Holcomb had just one baserunner, who reached on a two-out error in the second inning However, she would overrun second base and be tagged out for the final out of the inning. Scott City would bat around in the first two innings, and didn’t record an out in the third frame.

Ava Deines got the win in the circle, throwing a no hitter and striking out two, while throwing only 32 pitches in three innings. Scott City got three hits and two RBI from Peyton Gentry, while Piper Fox had two hits and drove in four runs. Ayda Fletcher surrendered 15 runs, 14 earned, on 15 hits in two-plus innings, and threw 52 pitches.

Scott City is now 2-4 overall, 2-2 in GWAC play, and will host Lakin on Friday. Holcomb drops to 0-6 overall, and 0-4 in league play, as they will be at TMP Marian on Friday.
