Lady Beaver softball run rules Southwestern Heights
Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Coming off a 10-day layoff, the Scott City Lady Beaver softball team returned to the diamond Friday afternoon to face the Southwestern Heights Lady Mustangs in non-league play. The Lady Beavers would take care of business in both games, coming away with wins of 15-0 and 18-2 in a pair of contests that did not make it past the sixth inning.
Scott City 15, SW Heights 0, Game 1
Southwestern Heights would collect two hits to start things off, but would come empty handed in their first at bat. Scott City was consistent in their scoring, putting up five runs in the three innings of play. The Lady Beavers got things going with a bang, as Hannah Tucker hit a two-run home run to get the scoring started. Cheyenne Cramer, and Makayala Miller would drive in runs in the opening inning. In the second frame, Tucker, Tori Ford, Cramer and Rhiley Stoppel would drive in a run each to make it 10-0. The inning saw three doubles out of the five RBI opportunity. It was more the same in the third inning, as Makayla Miller scored on a passed ball to end the game early at 15-0.
Cheyenne Cramer threw just 43 pitches in three innings to get the win, as she struck out three and allowed four hits. Hannah Tucker had three hits and drove in four, while Cramer had three hits and three RBI. Morgan McDaniel took the loss, giving up 15 runs, 13 earned, on 15 hits with three strikeouts in two and a third innings. McDaniel along with Allison Sanchez each had two hits for the Lady Mustangs.
Scott City 18, SW Heights 2, Game 2
Southwestern Heights would draw first blood in the second game, as they saw Allison Sanchez and Roxy Stone score on passed balls to give the Lady Mustangs the early 2-0 lead after a half an inning. Scott City would respond and they would in a major way. They sent 10 to the plate in the bottom of the first inning, scoring seven. Tori Ford’s solo home run tied the game at two, and after that, Makayla Miller and Rhiley Stoppel drove in runs to push the lead to 4-2. Malorie Cupp and Melany Duff scored on a throwing error to cap the scoring in the first at 7-2. The Lady Beavers put up 11 runs in the second frame, and sent 16 to bat. Tucker’s two-run double would put them up 14-2, and the scoring was capped off by Stoppel’s two-run triple to make it 18-2. Scott City would retire the side in order in the top of the third to make the final 18-2.
Hannah Tucker threw 52 pitches, 29 in the first inning, and got the win. She gave up two runs on three hits. Rhiley Stoppel had two hits and drove in three runs, while Tucker, Makayla Miller and Tori Ford each had two hits and two RBI, and Cheyenne Cramer had three hits. Roxy Stone took the loss, giving up 18 hits, 17 earned, on 15 hits in two innings of work. Southwestern Heights had just three hits.
Scott City is now 11-1 on the year, and will have their next three doubleheaders on the road, as they start with a trip to Goodland on Tuesday. Southwestern Heights is 2-12 overall, and will face Elkhart on the road on Tuesday.
