KSHSAA football reclassification proposal fails
Topeka (westernkansasnews.com)–In a vote by KSHSAA member schools in Class 4A through Class 1A, the proposal to change the classification of Class 4A football failed by a margin of 65% to 35%. The proposal that was voted on called for Class 4A to reduce its number of schools from 64-48, dropping the bottom 16 into Class 3A, and the bottom 16 of Class 3A to Class 2-1A.
By the numbers, Class 4A was the only classification where the proposal passed by a margin of 39-25, Class 3A saw 17 in favor and 47 opposed, Class 2A saw the vote 42-22 against, and Class 1A was against the proposal by a vote count of 75-23. Overall the proposal failed 189-101.
In a release from the Kansas State High School Activities Association, the proposal will no longer remain in consideration by the KSHSAA. Member schools had until June 15 to vote on the proposal.
