Kpreps High School Football Rankings: Nov. 10th

Class 6A

1. Lawrence improved to 9-0 after Dodge City forfeited due to COVID-19 concerns. The Lions will play host to Derby (6-2) in a huge quarterfinal matchup this week. Lawrence, the state’s all-time winningest program, is into the quarterfinals for the first time since ’15. The Lions have not reached the semifinals since ’05. Lawrence is 17-2 in the last two years as coach Steve Rampy and Devin Neal, the state’s No. 1 recruit, have led a huge turnaround.

2. Olathe North, the defending 6A runner-up, improved to 8-1 with a 38-17 victory against Olathe Northwest. North is the No. 1 seed in 6A East. North had defeated Northwest, 37-0, in Week 8 and then had a bye in Week 9 before the rematch.

3. Derby beat Gardner-Edgerton, 48-28, in the last game at Panther Stadium. The Panthers have made the last five state titles and are 4-1 in those contests, including the last two titles.

4. Junction City rolled over Centennial League foe Washburn Rural, 70-25, and improved to 8-1. The Blue Jays are into the quarterfinals for the second straight year. Junction City has not advanced past the quarterfinals since its title in ’08. Junction City had defeated Washburn Rural, 34-30, in Week 4.

5. Shawnee Mission Northwest defeated Olathe West, 26-14, and improved to 7-1. SMNW is into the quarterfinals for the first time since 2010.

Class 5A

1. Wichita Northwest improved to 8-0 and rolled over City League foe Wichita Heights, 69-0 – its second win against Heights this year. Northwest now faces Kapaun Mt. Carmel, two City League foes that did not play this year because of COVID-19 concerns. Northwest leads 5A in scoring offense and defense.

2. Mill Valley rolled over Spring Hill, 51-0, and improved to 7-2.

3. Bishop Carroll defeated Hutchinson, 42-28, and bumped to 7-2. It marked the first matchup between the schools since the ’11 playoffs. The game turned late in the first half when Carroll blocked a field goal and returned it for a touchdown.

4. Maize beat Maize South, 59-27, in the second matchup between the Maize school district rivals this season. Maize beat Maize South, 42-38, in Week 6 but dominated this one behind more than 320 all-purpose yards from running back Joshua Sanders.

5. Kapaun Mt. Carmel has quadrupled its win total from last year with a 38-15 victory against Goddard. KMC has used its balanced offensive attack and excellent defense led 14-0 after the first quarter and 31-7 after three quarters. Kapaun has enjoyed its best season in seven years.

Class 4A

1. Tonganoxie rolled over Lansing, 49-10, and bumped to No. 1 in 4A after top-ranked Paola lost to St. James Academy. The Chieftains will play host to Bishop Miege, the six-time defending state champions, in a huge quarterfinal matchup this week. The Chieftains have tied the best finish in school history. Tonganoxie has played in the quarterfinals on ’75, ’92, ’95 and ’19.

2. Bishop Miege crushed previously undefeated Fort Scott, 63-12. The Stags have scored 127 points in its two 4A playoff games.

3. McPherson rolled over Augusta, 52-20 and gets its rematch versus Buhler. The Bullpups beat Buhler, 18-6, on Oct. 9 and then defeated Augusta, 32-14, in Week 8.

4. St. James Academy delivered a 45-35 victory against previously undefeated and No. 1 ranked Paola. The Thunder have enjoyed a much more prolific passing attack with Dakota Burritt and La’James White has cleared 1,000 rushing yards. St. James Academy has tied the best advancement in school annals after quarterfinals in ’15, ’16 and ’17.

5. Paola ended its season at 9-1 with a 45-35 loss to St. James Academy.

Class 3A

1. Defending champion Andale beat Clearwater, 53-0. The Indians won their 22nd straight game. Andale had defeated Clearwater, 40-21, in Week 7 in district play.

2. Perry-Lecompton won its highly anticipated rematch, 20-7, against Topeka Hayden. Perry-Lecompton was ranked No. 3 and Hayden No. 2. Hayden won the first matchup, 10-0, with all points scored inside the game’s final two minutes. The Kaws are the defending 3A runners-up. Quarterback Thad Metcalfe ran 37 times in the victory.

3. Topeka Hayden lost, 20-7, to Perry-Lecompton and finished its season at 8-2.

4. Southeast of Saline beat Marysville, 20-0, and continued the best scoring defense in 3A. SES is 9-0 and has its most victories since a 10-1 mark in ’06.

5. Wichita Collegiate improved to 9-1 and beat Cheney, 35-20. Cheney was previously ranked No. 5 in 3A and ended the season 9-1.

Class 2A

1. In a matchup of undefeated squads, Rossville cruised over Maur Hill, 53-21. The Bulldawgs have scored at least 50 points in the last nine contests and has at least 42 in each game. Rossville easily leads 2A in scoring offense.

2. Hoisington won by COVID-19 forfeit against Cimarron and improved to 10-0.

3. Nemaha Central was previously ranked No. 5 and Silver Lake was No. 3. However, the defending state champion Thunder beat Silver Lake, 40-30.

4. Garden Plain beat Hillsboro, 25-20, and improved to 9-1. Garden Plain will travel to Hoisington in the quarterfinals. The Owls most recently lost to Hoisington in the playoffs in ’15 and ’19.

5. Silver Lake ended its season at 6-2 after a 40-30 loss to Nemaha Central. It marked the first time Silver Lake lost to a non-conference team since a ’17 playoff loss to Sabetha.

Class 1A

1. Olpe defeated Jackson Heights, 53-0, in a rematch. Olpe remained 1A’s lone undefeated squad at 10-0. The Eagles defeated Jackson Heights, 35-0, in Week 6. Olpe has five straight shutouts and has not allowed a touchdown since Week 3. Olpe has permitted just 23 total points.

2. Centralia rolled over Wabaunsee, 52-6, in a rematch from the regular season. The defending state champion Panthers have won 20 straight non-Week 1 games. Centralia defeated Wabaunsee, 60-20, in Week 8.

3. Smith Center beat Ell-Saline, 34-10, and won its ninth straight contest. The Redmen now get Mid-Continent League foe Oakley (8-2) in a home game at Hubbard Stadium. Smith Center beat Oakley (42-14) and Ell-Saline (46-13) in the regular season.

4. Conway Springs held off Plainville, 14-7, with the game-winning touchdown with 45 seconds left. Conway Springs will host Inman in the quarterfinals.

5. In its second matchup this fall, Inman beat Whitewater-Remington, 50-6. Inman improved to 8-2 and has its most victories since the early ‘90s. Inman had previously defeated Whitewater-Remington, 54-13.

Eight-Man, Division I

1. Canton-Galva won its 23rd straight contest with a 56-6 win versus Burlingame, the longest current winning streak in Kansas. The 10-0 Eagles have its anticipated matchup with No. 3 Madison (10-0) at Canton-Galva next week. Last year, the Eagles won at Madison, 46-6, in the state semifinals.

2. Leoti-Wichita County continued to dominate with a 68-0 home win versus Rawlins County. The Indians are 20-0 against non-St. Francis teams (two losses) since the start of ’19. Wichita County has scored at least 58 points in seven straight games. Overall, the Indians have scored 586 points. The top-4 teams in the rankings are the top-4 offenses. Wichita County leads, while Canton-Galva has 576, Madison 575 and Little River 560.

3. Madison rolled over Oswego, 60-0, in a game that ended at halftime.

4. Little River defeated Clifton-Clyde, 46-26. Little River had lost, 42-36, in overtime to Clifton-Clyde in Week 2. The Redskins moved from No. 5 to No. 4 in the rankings.

5. Hoxie moves into the rankings for the first time with its eighth straight victory. Hoxie delivered an impressive 50-0 win against South Gray. Junior quarterback Ashton Dowell accounted for five touchdowns.

Eight-Man, Division II

1. St. Francis dominated Bucklin, 54-0, in a game that ended at halftime. The game was played Saturday. The Indians will play host to Caldwell, which makes the 419-mile one-way trip Saint Francis.

2. Hanover rolled over rival Axtell, 52-6, in its second win against the Eagles this season. Hanover had defeated the Eagles, 62-12, on the road in Week 4.

3. Victoria defeated Sylvan-Lucas, 50-0, and improved to 10-0. The Knights had defeated the Mustangs 54-22 in the regular season back in Week 4.

4. Lebo beat Waverly, 56-8 and bumped to 10-0. The Wolves have its most wins since a 10-2 mark in ’10.

5. Frankfort held off Beloit St. John’s-Tipton, 54-43, in a road game and improved to 6-1.
