KJCCC suspends activities through April 1 due to COVID-19

BALDWIN, Kan. — Based on the latest developments and the continued spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference, with support from the conference President’s Council, announces the cancellation of all regular season competition for all teams, effective Friday, March 13 through April 1.  This time will allow everyone to assess the current situation and plan accordingly.  Member colleges and the media will be kept updated through this time as we navigate through this.

KJCCC Coronavirus Precautions

We are closely monitoring all aspects of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the welfare of all of those around the situation.  We understand, and respect the concern and uneasiness surrounding the current situation, thus we wanted to provide an update to our membership. At this time, all KJCCC activities will continue as scheduled. The KJCCC encourages its member institutions to take all necessary precautions and respects the specific institutions and the additional precautions they may take. In addition, the KJCCC asks it’s members to please review and implement the following host and participant guidelines:

Hosts shall:

  • Increase venue sanitation
  • Provide Public Address announcements reminding all in attendance of the importance of: frequent hand washing and to please refrain from physical contact with the players
  • Communicate any medical emergencies to the KJCCC Commissioner
  • Increased sanitation practices in each athletic training area as well as bench areas
  • Increase sanitation of game balls

Asks participants:

  • To practice good hygiene, specifically hand-washing frequently and covering mouth when sneezing or coughing.
  • If you have a student-athlete who is ill, they are to remain at home
  • Notify the KJCCC Commissioner of any travel restrictions or limitations that may be in effect for your school
  • No pregame or postgame hand shake with the opponents or officials

If a college makes the decision that they must cancel any spring sports season all together, then all participants on that team will be granted a hardship if this cancellation comes into effect on or before April 3rd, 2020 and not more than 60% of the season has been completed.  In this instance, a letter from the President accompanied by a roster of all participants on that team must be submitted to wbodey@njcaa.org for review and final approval.
