Garden City, Kan (WesternKansasNews.Com) – Hot, windy, and fast driving was the theme Saturday night in the season opener at Airport Raceway. With the regular seven classes competing, the opening surely didn’t disappoint. Over 50 total entries including 25 NOW600 Micros. Cory Kelly, Denver, Co, set the pace in the 3rd heat race.

Winning heat race three, Kelly would start inside row four in 7th. Kelly would waste no time getting by cars, as two drivers dropped outside the top ten, and at lap 7, Kelly was past Ed Libonati. Only 4 cautions throughout the windy feature, and the 47 Kelly machine was consistent each lap.

Drivers were pleased with the track conditions and competition for opening night. “I really had a blast tonight. There was a bottom, there was top, and it was so competitive” said Zak Moore. “I’m really excited about the upcoming season, especially after tonight” he finished.

The micros weren’t the only show stunner that night. Enzo Spicola won the restricted A-Main in his first appearance at the track. Jeff Louderback, Liberal, Ks, claimed the top spot in the IMCA Mod-Lite division for his Outlaw Irrigation machine.

The next weekly race will be May 21st with pits opening at 3:00, Gates opening at 5:30, Hot Laps at 6:30, and Races at 7:00.
