Kay Shoemaker, age 77, of Garden City, Kansas and formerly of Ulysses, died Saturday, July 9, 2016 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. She was born February 12, 1939 in Hooker, Oklahoma, the daughter of Don and Irene Rader.

Kay grew up in Liberal, Kansas, and graduated from Liberal High School. She moved to Ulysses in 1967. Kay worked at Western Prairie Care Home in the laundry and housekeeping departments. In 1985, she operated the Office Tavern for 8 years. In 2010, Kay moved to Garden City to be near family.

She is survived by three daughters, Pam Karnes of Natural Dam, Arkansas, Brenda Manuel of Edgewood, Illinois, Jan Siebert and husband Darrin of Garden City, Kansas; brothers, Jerry Joe Rader of Liberal, Kansas and Billy Mack Rader of Houston, Texas; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. 

Kay is preceded in death by her parents; and two sons, Donnie Shoemaker and Ted Shoemaker; two brothers, Donald Gene Rader and Bobby Ray Rader; and one sister, Jacqueline Donna Weisert.

Funeral service will be Friday, July 15, 2016 at 2:00 PM at the Celebration Baptist Church in Ulysses with Pastor Nathan Engelman officiating. Interment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, July 14, 2016 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
