Karlin: Local Taxpayers Could Get Higher Bill For Education

Dr. Steven Karlin

Garden City, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Superintendent Doctor Steve Karlin at USD 457 in Garden City was disappointed the State Finance Committee did not hear their plea for more money. Out of a total of 607-thousand dollars requested, Garden City schools only received 56-thousand.

Karlin means the school board will look at future increases in the mill levy to offset anticipated losses. The district is expecting an increase of 120 students this year and the added expenses go beyond the classroom.

A full presentation is expected next Monday night at the school board meeting on the implications of the state’s decision.
