Kansas State Wins Big 12 Championship in Win Over Texas
Manhattan, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–Heisman hopeful Collin Klein threw for 184 yards and one score, as well as rushing for 103 yards and two scores to lead the No. 6 Kansas State Wildcats to their first Big 12 Championship in nine years in a 42-24 win over No. 18 Texas Saturday night at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The Wildcats led 7-3 after the first quarter, but trailed the Longhorns 10-7 at the break. In the second half, K-State and the Longhorns traded scores in the third period, before the Wildcats took the lead for good late in the quarter on a two-yard run by John Hubert to lead 21-17 heading into the final quarter. In the opening minute of the fourth period, Klein hit Tyler Lockett on a 55-yard pass play to give the Wildcats a two-score lead, and never looked back. Hubert rushed for 66 yards and three touchdowns in the win, which was the fifth straight win over the Longhorns. Kansas State finished the regular season at 11-1, the first time since 2003 that they have hit the 11-win mark. Twenty-seven seniors played their final game in Manhattan. The Wildcats will face the Oregon Ducks in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl January 3.
