Kansans get first taste of wintry weather

snow

DODGE CITY — The state of Kansas received it’s first measureable amount of snowfall over the weekend, as much of the state woke up to snow on the ground.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, the Dodge City Regional Airport received 0.5″ of snowfall on Sunday. This became the third earliest measureable snowfall for Dodge City dating back to 1893. The earliest snowfall came on Sept. 21, 1995 when Dodge City received 1.4″ of snow. However, the 0.5″ did set a record for Dodge City on Oct. 14.

As much of the state received snow over the weekend, many are still trying to manage the brutal temperatures and wind chills. Garden City Regional Airport saw a record on Sunday, as well. The Airport recorded 28 degrees, which is tied a record-low for Garden City on Oct. 14, also set back in 1995.

Luckily for southwest Kansas residents, we will see an increase in temperatures as the week goes on and the snow will begin to melt.
