K-State dominates Cyclones-with audio
Manhattan, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–John Hubert rushed for 105 yards on 15 carries, and two touchdowns, as the Kansas State Wildcats won their second straight game with a 41-7 victory over the Iowa State Cyclones Saturday afternoon at Bill Snyder Family Stadium on Fort Riley Day.
Hubert scored his first touchdown on a nine-yard run to the right with 8:40 left in the first quarter. Jack Cantele kicked in the extra point, and added a career-best 44-yard field goal on Kansas State’s second possession to make it 10-0, and that was the score after the first quarter.
After an Iowa State missed field goal, the Wildcats added one score in the second quarter, on a Daniel Sams one-yard run with under a minute left before halftime, and Cantele’s kick made it 17-0 K-State at half.
Kansas State added three points in the third period on their opening drive of the second half. Jack Cantele knocked in a 42-yard field goal with 10:14 remaining in the third quarter to make it 20-0 Cats.
In the fourth quarter, K-State finished off Iowa State (1-7, 0-5 Big 12). The Wildcats capped off a five minute, 30 second drive with 10:57 remaining on a Hubert three-yard run to make it 26-0. Cantele’s PAT made it 27-0. After the Kansas State defense forced a turnover on downs, Tremaine Thompson made an incredible touchdown catch from Daniel Sams from 28-yards out with 7:06 remaining. Thompson was tackled to the ground, and somehow caught the ball while on his back. Cantele’s kick made it 34-0. Following Dorian Roberts’ interception that set up K-State at the Cyclone 19, Robert Rose ran it in for his first touchdown of the year with 5:16 left, and it was 41-0 after the PAT.
Iowa State scored right after a Kansas State fumble for their lone points of the afternoon with 3:24 remaining, on a DeVondrick Nealy 10-yard run with just over three minutes left, and the extra point made it 41-7.
Jake Waters was 9-of-15 for 157 yards, while Daniel Sams was 4-0f-5 passing for K-State (4-4, 2-3 Big 12) for 64 yards and a touchdown pass to Thompson. Tyler Lockett caught five passes for 72 yards.
Kansas State had a slight change in their uniform on Saturday. In honor of Fort Riley Day, the powercat logo on the helmet, as well as the stripes were in purple camouflage, marking the first change on the K-State helmets since 1989.
The Wildcats had another balanced attack, as they gained 448 yards of total offense, 227 rushing and 221 passing. Iowa State gained only 249 yards of offense, 123 rushing and 126 passing.
Up next for K-State will be a trip to No. 25 Texas Tech for an 11 am kickoff in Lubbock on Saturday. Iowa State will host TCU at 11 am Saturday.
