Just two wins from title
Lyons, KS (westernkansasnews.com)-One would define perseverance as the ability to overcome adversity. Finney County’s 14 year-old-squad would describe it as survival. However you interpret it, the Bombers rode the win-and-go-home philosophy all the way to a 6-2 win over the Mid Kansas All Stars in the semifinals of the Babe Ruth State Baseball Tournament.
“We have to get our offense started earlier,” Finney County coach Travis Brunson said following a 13-9 loss to Spring River. “We’re putting too much pressure on our pitchers.”
To say the Bombers heeded to their coach’s advice was an understatement. Finney County plated four of their six runs in the first two innings. Eric Heiman, who drove in two runs and finished 3-for-4 at the plate, provided the early spark.
“Our coaches told us to stay up on our hitting and stay focused ,” Heiman said. “We did that and we were able to come out on top.”
