Jury hears FBI evidence in Garden City bomb plot trial

Wichita, Kan. (KSNW) – As the trial continued Tuesday in the bomb plot case against Gavin Wright, Curtis Allen and Patrick Stein, the FBI said it found so-called high explosives.
The defense pointed out that only a small amount of actual explosives was found. However, the Government put forward evidence to show exactly what it found.
The evidence included materials like a blasting cap and a detonator. Prosecutors showed the jury pictures of G & G Homes in Liberal where defendant Gavin Wright works and say search warrants at that location were necessary based on information given to agents.
The former girlfriend of one of the defendants, Ms. Harris, told the jury one of the reasons she called police in 2016 was, “It all needed to come out, what they were doing. I knew something was close…”
That something, according to FBI agents and informants, was a plot to explode bombs around an apartment complex in Garden City that housed primarily Muslim, Somali immigrants.
The defense attorneys in the case questioned whether or not all the evidence collected in search warrants could be found in a typical kitchen.
FBI Special Agent Jonathan Tucker pointed out some of the ingredients found at the locations were of a “higher grade than would be found” in a typical kitchen.
All three defendants sat quietly on Tuesday, occasionally talking quietly with their attorneys.
The case continues on Wednesday.
