Scott City, Kan. (westernkansasnews.com)–While he wasn’t originally selected to the West Squad for the Kansas Shrine Bowl, Jarret Jurgens got a second opportunity. In late March, Jurgens was picked after some roster adjustments, and will put on the Scott City blue helmet and represent the Beavers in the 44th annual Kansas Shrine Bowl on Saturday at Carnie Smith Stadium in Pittsburg. Kickoff is set for 7 pm.

Jurgens is added to an elite company of former Beaver football players to play in the game. He will be the 28th in program history to do so. In his senior year, Jurgens rushed for over 1,000 yards and had 10 touchdowns. He had five interceptions and 65 tackles as well on defense. Jurgens was a two-year starter for Scott City, and also started a good portion of his sophomore year on offense.

For college, Jurgens is headed to Hastings College, and will wrestle for the Broncos program.

The head coach for the west team is Scott Vang, who coached at Goddard. Assistants include Hesston’s Tyson Bauerle, Tim Lambert from Smoky Valley, Steve Martin from Wichita Northwest, Smith Center’s Darren Sasse, and Dusty Trail from Bishop Carroll. Camp started last Friday for the West Squad.
