Joseph Hernandez, 61, died Monday, May 1, 2017 at Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City. He was born September 20, 1955 in Garden City the son of Herman Bernal Hernandez and Mary Delgado Hernandez.
Joseph has been a lifetime resident of Garden City. He attended Garden City schools. He worked most of his life doing auto body work and painting. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, painting cars, going to the casino, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Dallas Cowboys, and spending time with his nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his mother Mary Hernandez of Garden City; six siblings Steve Hernandez of Garden City, Cecelia Perez of Garden City, Beatrice Hernandez of Garden City, Jack Hernandez of Yuma, Arizona, Serena Hernandez of Garden City, and Sabrina Crouch of Wichita, Kansas; his four adoptive children Anissa Hernandez, Rhianna Hernandez, Marcus Montoya, & Kaitlyn Hernandez all of Garden City; and 56 nieces and nephews. Jospeh is preceded in death by his father Herman Hernandez; a great-nephew Kaylien Davon Gonzalez; and a great-niece Bailea Hernandez.
A rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 5 also at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City with Fr. Charles Seiwert as Celebrant. A private family interment will take place at a later date at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. There will be no calling hours. The family request memorials given to the Joseph Hernandez Memorial Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home.
