Johnny graduated from Jetmore High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge he moved to Haysville where his worked at Boeing Aircraft and was a Scout Master. In 1963 he moved to Garden City to work for a local farmer and later joined his Father on the family farm and was a lifelong Farmer-Stockman in Finney County. He enjoyed working with kids on their 4-H projects and was a sponsor on many 4-H events and trips. He also liked doing his CB radios, building model and planes and launching rockets.
