John P. Sterling
John P. Sterling, 73 died Monday, April 4, 2016 at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City. He was born February 11, 1943 in Kingman, Kansas the son of John & Philomen Mary “Phil” (Tatro) Sterling.
John moved with his family to Garden City when he was a child. He attended St. Mary Catholic School. John worked for a total of 50 years as a farm laborer in Lakin and Garden City. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include a brother Paul Sterling of Garden City; two nephews Paul Sterling II of Garden City and Levi Sterling of Garden City; a niece Amanda Sterling of Lawrence, Ks.; and his adopted family Mike and Lisa Maixner and their children Michael Lane Maixner and Maia Renae Maixner. John is preceded in death by his parents and a brother Edward J. Sterling.
A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Garden City. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 8 also at St. Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Charles Seiwert as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery in Garden City. There will be no calling hours. The family request memorials given to St. Mary School Endowment Fund in care of Garnand Funeral Home of Garden City.
