John Jay Hatton, 68, died February 23, 2017 at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. He was born on September 27, 1948 at Syracuse, Kansas the son of Ray and Bernice (Rees) Hatton.

He grew up in Bear Creek and went to Bear Creek Grade School through the eighth grade and continued his education at Syracuse High School graduating in 1966. Mr. Hatton furthered his education by attending and graduating from Oklahoma Panhandle State University in 1973 with a Bachelors degree in Ag Science.

He worked for sale barns, farmers and ranchers to make his way through college and told many a story about his experiences. He took a long time to make it through college because he laid out a year or so to help his folks Ray and Bernice move and retire to town from their lifetime residence. Thank goodness or he would have never met and married his wife Angie in 1973.

He is survived by his wife Angie of the home; daughter Holli Hatton of Wichita; son Heath Hatton of Wichita; four grandchildren Brieanna Schawo of Leander, Texas; Johnny Hatton of Leander, Texas; Taylee Hatton and Teva Hatton of Wichita; two sisters Susan H. Westeman of Syracuse, Kansas; Sarah Cooper and husband Jim of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one brother G. Ray Hatton and wife Janice of Scottsdale, Arizona and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Ray and Bernice Hatton, grandparents George and Ida Hatton; Frank and Olga Rees and niece Kara Sue Westeman.
