Joann Patterson, age 82, of Ulysses, Kansas died Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. She was born November 26, 1933 in Plains, Kansas, the daughter of Bill and Mable (Smith) Spencer.

Joann grew up in Saunders, Plains and Copeland. She attended school at Copeland and graduated from Copeland High School. Joann married Kenneth “Kenny” Patterson Jr. on December 13, 1957 in Johnson, Kansas. She worked at The Paddock Western Store, Peddler’s Inn Restaurant in Ulysses, and Dillon’s grocery store in Garden City. Joann also operated a number of cafes. 

She is survived by her husband, Kenny of the home; sons, Norman and wife Di Anna, Joe Bob and wife Sherri all of Ulysses, Kansas; daughter, Tami Chandler and husband Gary of Ness City, Kansas; brothers, Harry Spencer of Harper, Kansas, Chuck Spencer of Moline, Kansas, Jim Spencer and Dean Spencer both of Ulysses, Kansas; sisters, Mary Lou Morgan of Spiro, Oklahoma, Ruth Wilkinson of East Purdy, Missouri; sister-in-law, Carlotta Harris of Ulysses, Kansas; nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild and one more on the way. 

Joann is preceded in death by her parents; daughters, Alice Marie Hook and Leanne Moore; granddaughters, Raynie Moore and Julie Ann Brooks; grandson, Franklin Tyrone Rice; great-granddaughter, Zoey Daugherty; brother, Bob Spencer; and sister, Alice Prewitt.

Funeral service will be Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Ulysses with Reverend Todd Guinn and Pastor Susie Woods officiating. Interment will follow at Ulysses Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday, September 30, 2016 from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM, with family present from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Garnand Funeral Home in Ulysses.
