Jamie Richardson named Broncbuster Cheer Coach
Garden City, KS-After a lengthy search, Garden City Community College has named Jamie Richardson as the new Head Coach of the nationally-recognized Broncbuster Cheer Program.
“I was so impressed with their positive and innovative approach,” Richardson said. “Garden City doesn’t just look at an athlete’s ability. They see them for who they are, what they can become and how can they benefit the community.”
Richardson’s background in cheer and gymnastics is well documented. The Georgia-native comes to Garden City after spending the last three years as the Head Cheer Coach at Coffeyville Community College. She also spent time as the Head Coach of the Southern Elite All-Stars in Thomasville, Georgia, guiding the program to a handful of statewide awards.
“It’s definitely been a whirlwind for me,” Richardson said. “I’m very thankful for the opportunity.”
Richardson, who grew up competing in both gymnastics and cheerleading, graduated from Thomas County Central High School in Thomasville, GA in 2010. She was a member of the cheer and spirt squads all four years. Richardson went onto cheer at Ohio Wesleyan University, and was part of a national-championship squad. In 2014, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Health and Human Kinesiology with an emphasis in sports management.
“My parents always told me that the world is much bigger than my backyard,” Richardson said. “I’ve been in small communities, but their presence is much bigger than their size.”
Even as a young coach, Richardson has already caught the eye of Holly Schaffner, the State Director for the National Cheerleaders Association.
“Coach Richardson is a well-respected cheerleading coach and has already found success in the Jayhawk Conference,” Schaffner said. “She brings a wealth of knowledge and professionalism, as well as a solid resume. She has a vision for a complete game-day experience, and her knowledge in this area will surely have a positive impact on the Broncbuster community.
