Iowa Western completes 2-game sweep; drops Busters on a walk off
Council Bluffs, IA (westernkansasnews.com)-The No. 3 has some significance to Garden City. Chris Finnegan’s team scored three runs in a 23-3 loss to Colby on Sunday and three runs in a 13-3 defeat to Iowa Western on Tuesday. Unfortunately for the Busters, Wednesday was no different.
Matt Hoeg laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring Jared Gates from third and the 16th-ranked Reivers edged Garden City 4-3.
“I’m proud of how our team competed,” Finnegan said afterwards. “It was a much better showing than Sunday or Tuesday. They just made one more play than we did.”
After digging a 2-0 hole, the Busters (17-8, 8-4) fought back in the sixth, scoring a run on an error by shortstop Ryan Merrill. They would take they lead in the seventh on Kyle Lopez’s two-run double only to see the Reivers tie it in the bottom half. That set up the dramatics in the final inning.
“Hopefully this game gets us back on track,” Finnegan said. “We’ve got a big one this weekend with Cloud coming to town.”
