Hugoton Starts With Impressive Wins Over Syracuse
Hugoton, KS (westernkansasnews.com) Both Hugoton basketball teams did not look rusty at all in easy wins over Syracuse to open up the high school basketball season. The Lady Eagles won 76-27 and Eagle boys 51-28.
Girls Highlights
One player stole the show in each game. Hugoton Senior Riley Sosa delivered two early three’s to help jump start the Eagle offense and sophomore Amy Scott led four players in double figures with 24 points in a 49 point win. Sosa who attempted a school record 101 3’s and hit 78 shots from long range over the past two years is not afraid to put the ball up.
Boys Highlights
In the boy’s game sophomore forward Zack Leininger scored Hugoton’s first ten points over a four minute span and sophomore Tony Kinser added six blocks in the 23 point win. Syracuse was held to two points in the first quarter. Hugoton Head Coach Craig Szymczak was happy about his team’s ability to defend.
Hugoton is back in action next Thursday night when they host the annual Blue and Red tournament. The girls open with Perryton at 6:30 and the boys battle Gruver at 8:15.
